The Taliban Targeted Cheney **UPDATED**

An assassination attempt was made on Vice President Cheney early this morning at a military base in Afghanistan. He escaped unharmed. But, sadly, the suicide bomber killed 14 people and wounded a dozen more.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack and stated that the Vice President was their target. As soon as this news became public, bloggers around the world began making their posts on the situation.

Question: Now that this news has hit the blogosphere, how long do you think it will be before Leftist bloggers begin expressing their sadness that the suicide bomber failed in his attempt to assassinate Cheney? How long will it be before they again express their desire to see Dick Cheney dead?

Well, it took approximately .00000065 seconds. A poster at DailyKos quickly threw together his post on the assassination attempt? His perspective is that the attack will only cause Cheney to become more paranoid and crazed. Take a look at the first few sentences of his post:

“At least 23 people were killed, but the VP was unharmed.

Not damn because they missed the giant Dick, I don't wish him dead (okay maybe I do, but I'm working really hard on being a kinder, more forgiving person.) but because this is just going to fuel his paranoid delusional fantasies that the terrorists are coming to get him.”

Yes, he originally states that he does not wish death upon the Vice President. But, the leftist in him quickly grabs hold, and he expresses his true feelings.

Then, he actually claims that the Vice President is simply paranoid for believing that terrorists are trying to kill him. Go figure.

The writer did suggest, in the comment section, that he was just exaggerating:

“And I really don't wish him dead, but it's increasingly hard to wish him any good too. In this case I plead to a little exagerration for the sake of my writing.”

Well, isn’t that special. Exaggerating. Yes, yes. Assassination attempts on our nation’s leaders are always ripe areas for comedy.

You might also be interested to know that a couple of the commentators on this post suggest that the entire event may have been planned and staged by Cheney. The conspiracies never end.

I’m sure that there will be more of these nuts wishing death upon President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Just wait. It won’t take long.

I told you so. Within just a couple of hours, the HuffingtonPost, DailyKos, and DemocraticUnderground were filled with sadness that the suicide bomber missed his target.

Michelle Malkin documents their derangement here.

And, there's even more vileness at MetaFilter. Here's a sample (You'll have to excuse some of their language):

Yet more proof that prayer does not work.

I am sorry for the others, it's a tragic thing. But there's another tragedy, and that's that they missed.

I don't understand why the Taliban would do such a thing. Don't they realize it would bring aid and comfort to their ememy?
